2019-06-05

TheFourthSession of ColloquiumSeries on Policy and Realitiesby CASS Members was held at Liangxiang Campus (R140, Administration Building) on the afternoon of May 31th, 2019. Under the title of Reflections on Three Rounds of Responses to Downward Pressure, the talk was delivered by Prof. Wang Tongsan, a member and research fellow of of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences ( CASS).

Prof. Wang started by running the audience through the macroeconomic realities and three rounds of downward pressure China has faced since 1978, elaborating the response measures and outcomes in the context of domestic economic statistics and relevant policies.

In an effort to recapitulate the economic policies and all-round opening-up of China since 1978, the speaker took the execution of economic policies such as “Five-day work week” and “state-owned enterprises (SOE) dividend submission” as examples to explain the challenges encountered and efforts made as China opens up to the rest of the world. He then further interpreted the actions in place to deepen all-round opening-up and facilitate SOE reform, as necessary measures to seek progress while maintaining stability in response to national and international realities.

As the event came to a conclusion, Prof. Wang also addressed questions from the audience, touching upon specific topics such as “How to strike a proper balance between supply and demand”.

Chaired by Prof. Lin Wei, Vice President of UCASS, the lecture was jointly sponsored by the General Office of Academic Divisions of CASS and UCASS.
