In 2025, commissioned by the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of the Ministry of Education, the China Education Association for International Exchange launched the nationwide selection of the first group of Outstanding Courses for National Conditions Education for International Students in China and Social Practice Activity Bases for Chinese and Foreign Youth. Among submissions from Beijing, five courses were selected, with 111 courses chosen nationwide. The UCASS course "National Governance and Socio-Cultural Development in New China" has passed the review of the Ministry of Education and the China Education Association for International Exchange and has been included in the recommended list of Outstanding Courses for National Conditions Education for International Students in China.
Taught in both Chinese and English, the course is specifically designed for international students studying in China. It focuses on the major theoretical and practical innovations achieved by the Communist Party of China (CPC) in adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and the needs of our times. Centered on the theme of national governance, with political governance as the leading element, economic governance as the foundation, and cultural governance as a defining feature, the course constructs a comprehensive framework integrating the political, economic, and cultural dimensions of socialist development in New China. Drawing on both the historical foundations and current realities of New China the course integrates contemporary concerns with a forward-looking perspective. It is structured around a chapter-by-chapter exploration of more than seventy years of New China's construction and development, helping international students systematically understand major events, theoretical innovations, practical experiences, and far-reaching impacts in the realms of political, economic, and cultural governance. Through this in-depth study, students are encouraged to gain a profound understanding of the CPC's historic journey in leading the Chinese people to build a socialist country, to grasp the underlying laws and transformative trajectory of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and to comprehend the core essence, internal logic, significant achievements, and defining features of adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and the needs of our times. Ultimately, the course aims to inspire international students to engage with the process of Chinese path to modernization amid the tides of global change, and to develop a comprehensive understanding of the world significance of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation in the context of profound changes unseen in a century.
Looking ahead, UCASS will fully leverage the demonstrative role of this exemplary course to further advance the development and research of national condition education for international students.
