From Johannesburg to Beijing: Keynote Session with the Principle of NSG at UCASS

2025-03-18

On the afternoon of November 6, the 74th Session of the Global Insight Series was successfully held at UCASS. The university had the privilege of inviting Busani Ngcaweini, Principle of the National School of Government(NSG) in South Africa for a keynote lecture titling "Building Dynamic State Capabilities to Drive Inclusive Growth: South African Perspective."

Prior to the lecture, Professor Zhan Long, Assistant President of UCASS, met with Busani Ngcaweni. Professor Zhan noted the UCASS’s commitment to fostering collaboration with institutions in developing countries, including South Africa. Over the years, UCASS has built a robust network of partners among developing nations through foreign aid training programs. He expressed the universitys readiness to further enhance academic exchanges and cooperation with the NSG in areas such as talent development, faculty visits, and academic research. Busani Ngcaweni recalled his long-standing connections with CASS, highlighting the NSGs strong emphasis on its collaborative relations with both CASS and UCASS and willingness to engage in extensive cooperation across relevant sectors.

During his lecture, Ngcaweini stated the necessity to reflect on South Africas specific and unique contextual realities, in order to understand the political decisions made by South Africa over the past thirty years. Only through such endeavors can we uncover the underlying reasons behind these choices and, in turn, fathom out the intrinsic connections between its democratic politics and different historical periods.
